Celebrating 15 Years of Anime Festival Asia
In 2023, we celebrated 15 years of Anime Festival Asia in Singapore, welcoming over 120,000 visitors across 3 days. An original anime featuring our mascot Seika was launched, as she dives into the world of J-Culture; featuring the Official AFA Singapore 2023 Theme Song "Precious!" with original music by katz and vocals by Shikibu Meguri.
The First AFA Creators Super Fest and New Experiences
Previously held in Jakarta, Indonesia as "Creators Super Fest", SOZO launched the very first "AFA Creators Super Fest (AFACSF)" in Singapore as a spin-off event from AFA. Celebrating Anime, Comics, Games and Pop Culture, AFACSF was created as a creator and community focused event.
Engaging local illustrators from Merryweather Media, we worked with them to create AFACSF's official key visual featuring our mascot Seika. The local community had their chance to shine through hosting workshops on the new Creators Lab stage, as well as performances on the Super Akiba Stage.
Working closely with renowned illustrator LAM from Japan, SOZO held the very first LAM Art Exhibition in AFACSF, showcasing original artworks and hosting meet & greet sessions with the artist himself.
Welcoming other international guests such as performer Ladybeard from Australia, Anisong singer MinDaryn from Thailand and top virtual talent Kureiji Ollie from hololive Indonesia; AFACSF kicked off successfully.
SOZO has also made waves in the IP exhibition scene around the region. Previously supporting the ATTACK ON TITAN The Exhibition in Singapore in 2022, SOZO has partaken in co-organising the NARUTO TV Animation 20th Anniversary Exhibition in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur in 2023.
SOZO has likewise organised retail concepts SEA-wide, launching the SPY x FAMILY Pop-Up Store in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, with more in the works.
The Comeback for J-Concerts
SOZO recently has increased its concert offerings, bringing in top-tier Japanese music performers into Southeast Asia. Recent sold-out concerts by top Japanese performers held by SOZO in various Asian cities (Singapore, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur and more) include RADWIMPS, MAN WITH A MISSION, and GARNiDELiA in 2023.
Anime Festival Asia 2022 wins Outstanding Leisure Event at the Singapore Tourism Awards 2023.
SOZO’s impact on the ACG scene has been recognised twice by the Singapore Tourism Board, receiving the Outstanding Leisure Event Award at the Singapore Tourism Awards in 2019 and 2023 – having been a finalist in the category from 2017 to 2020 and 2023.
The team at SOZO is grateful for all the support we have recevied in 2023, after being unable to host events for the past few years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
We look forward to bringing more of J-culture to you in 2024!
