George Town, 12 June 2019 — Penang Esports Festival 2019 (PEF) is set to be the largest landmark gaming and esports event in Northern Malaysia. PEF is scheduled to take place for the very first time on 7th & 8th September 2019 at the Setia SPICE Arena.
Esports or electronic sports for short, is an organised form of competition similar to professional sports but centred around video games. It is one of the fastest growing revenue streams in the Southeast Asian market with an estimated US$40 mil worth by the year 2020 in advertising and sponsorship, merchandising and ticketing, as well as media rights. PEF strives to tap into this market and become one of the top esports events in the region, targeting over 10 mil esports fans in Malaysia and beyond. PEF also aims to position Penang as the gaming and esports hub in Malaysia whilst promoting Penang as a top tourism destination for the youth.
The inaugural Penang Esports Festival 2019 is organised by SOZO Pte Ltd, and supported by funding from the Penang State Government with the cooperation of PETACH (Penang State EXCO Office for Tourism, Arts, Culture & Heritage) and Penang Global Tourism. Partners of the festival are Eliphant Pte Ltd, Flash Vision Esport, GameStart Asia and KITAMEN.

Massive Prize Pots for Popular Games!
PEF is pulling out all the stops, offering over RM75,000 in prize money! Esports athletes will compete in popular games such as Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, TEKKEN 7, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, SOULCALIBUR VI, FIFA 19, Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 and more. Do not fret if you’re unable to witness the tournaments at PEF. There will be live streaming of selected mobile game and fighting game matches made available via Twitch, a live streaming platform for gamers. It will enable gaming fans to partake and discuss the matches being played at PEF simultaneously where an estimated 20,000 viewers are expected to connect live then.
